Are you ready to discover the Caribbean of Italy? Then make yourself comfortable and read this info for a dream week in Salento. I want to tell you and bring with my mind to discover a part of Salento to fall in love like me with this incredible area! It was one of the holidays that stayed in my heart the most and I hope you can also feel it from my words, because believe me there is nothing negative in a vacation in Salento!
First I want to tell you that, if you are like me and you love to enjoy the sea until late in the evening and be comfortable in the evening without having to get in the car and drive miles to dine or take a walk, Gallipoli is a great choice! We rented a scooter for the entire time we were in Salento and I highly recommend it because it will allow you to get around Gallipoli without getting stuck in traffic and to move to the various nearby beaches without taking too long!
If you know it or have heard of it, you will know that Salento offers many splendid beaches and in a week you cannot do everything and you will be forced to make a choice but calm, always and in any case the amazing places!
I want to tell you our choice and give you some little info:
Lido delle conchiglie
Both free and equipped beach. Crystal clear sea and view of the particular split mountain. Sandy beach.
Lido Punta Prosciutto
Beautiful but not recommended in August (crowded free beach and the fully equipped one) gorgeous sea without a doubt!
Torre San Giovanni
For me the best. White sand beach (both free and equipped), incredible water! We are not far from the Maldives of Salento which unfortunately we have not been able to see!
Porto Selvaggio
Absolutely to see and of a particular beauty. Beach or pine forest only free. Very organized with chemical toilets and plastic Free refreshment points.
So, we understood that the seaside is incredible but Salento is not only this. It has beautiful cities and towns to visit where to spend pleasant evenings with family, with your partner or just with your friends!
Regarding this, let’s talk in detail about our choice and I’ll tell you right away that Gallipoli doesn’t disappoint even for the evening! The historic center is of unique beauty. You will find yourself walking and getting lost in small narrow streets full of shops with typical products, places to sip a good cocktail and delicious restaurants. Moreover, Gallipoli offers you a fabulous sunset! You have to take a drink and have a seat. The rest is a natural show!
But wait a minute! We are forgetting an important thing….the food! OMG what a great show for the palate!!! Pasticciotti for breakfast, loafs or panzerotti for lunch and mountains of fish and orecchiette with meatballs for dinner! Top!
I am ending this post about my trip in Salento with some travel tips that I hope will be useful for you, for your next vacation in Salento:
- rent a scooter, you will save a lot of time. It is the best way to move between the beaches without making endless queue and to reach the historic center of the city;
- prepare a schedule of things to see first, unfortunately you will have to make a choice and if you prepare yourself before leaving the hotel every morning, you won’t waste your time;
- buy your souvenirs in the shops of the historic center because you will find very nice things;
- go around the streets of the historic center with the characteristic “Apette”, for me it was really fun;
- before dedicating yourself to Salento and the sea, stop for a visit in other towns of Puglia like Alberobello or Polignano;
- remember that you will not see Salento once because you will be in love with it so you do not have to rush to see things, you can plan another trip to enjoy stops or beaches that you have not been able to do;
- feel free and enjoy everything as if you were a local! Here everyone makes you feel at home and if you savor the ambiance your holiday will be even better!
- The sun is beating down! Don’t forget a good sunscreen and a hat for hot days!
I hope I have made you curious to discover this incredible part of Italy or have given you some ideas if Salento was already in your bucket list for this summer.
So, Have an Happy Italian Holiday
See you soon.
