Koh Samui is one of the most popular areas in Thailand and boasts wonderful sights, tasty cuisine and much more. Finding the right place for your trip is essential to make it the perfect holiday and below we’ve compiled the top five luxury accommodation destinations in Koh Samui. A trip to Koh Samui will be an exotic indulgence you’ll never forget and choosing to stay in one of these luxury destinations will make your trip even more memorable.
Chaweng
Chaweng is the biggest town on the island of Koh Samui and has the longest beach too. It’s packed out with quality restaurants along its beautiful sandy beach and there are also plenty of unique shops and bars to be enjoyed. There are plenty of luxury villas to choose from offering the finest amenities including swimming pools, fully-stocked bars and more.
Bophut
Bophut is one of Koh Samui’s most charming, intimate villages and although the area is made up solely of old Chinese shop houses converted into elegant restaurants, bars and shops you can also stroll around the area at your leisure and indulge in its romance. There’s a Mediterranean feel to the area and villas of the highest quality can be found nearby. The traditional core of Bophut, known as the Fisherman’s Village, is a charming village on the east side of the beach while the new developments are to the west. In contrast to Chaweng there has been a conscious effort to dissuade the more commercial elements of Thai night life from setting up shop and instead aiming for couples and young families.
Bang Rak
Bang Rak is home to the most famous landmark of Koh Samui, The Big Buddha. It sits on the beach and is near the airport which makes a convenient place to stay and relax. There are plenty of luxury villas to choose from and it’s less touristy than some of the other areas if you’re looking for a break from the mainstream. Bang Rak beach is 4km long with white sands and clear blue water; adjoining the popular north-eastern corner. The Bang Rak beach is known for its excellent scenery and lively parties, however, the beach is quite serene and laid-back in comparison to the other beaches in Koh Samui.
Lipa Noi
Lipa Noi is on the west coast of the island and is famed for its laid back and non-tourist feel. It is at a safe distance from the commercial east coast and the beaches are untouched and spotless. With shallow seas and a prime location near the island’s main car ferry port it’s a brilliant location for families. Large, luxury villas are easily found and can cater for families of all sizes. Its closeness to the island’s main car ferry pier makes Lipa Noi a convenient choice for anyone driving to Samui from the mainland. The beach has fine white sand and there are no rocks or coral in the water, making it one of the best beaches for kids on the island. Apart from the beach, there’s little else to do in the area, its very remoteness is what makes it most attractive to the regular visitors, who come in quite large numbers. It is certainly not the place to come for a party and this is reflected in the older demographic of tourists here.
Plai Laem
Plai Laem is in the top right-hand corner of the isle and is extremely quiet, offering private villas and rental houses as well as luxury hotels. It’s ideal for a relaxing break and it’s only 10 minutes from Chaweng where all the action happens. Luxury villas to cater for couples or huge families can be found and you can enjoy the highest level of indulgence in the area. Plai Laem Beach is located in the top right hand corner of Samui, Surat Thani. It is a popular spot in Koh Samui due to its location and fantastic views. Certain spots in Plai Laem offers fantastic sunsets. The sand stretches for 2 kilometres and is white and soft. The water is kept warm and calm by an offshore coral so it’s great for paddling or swimming, and a bit of snorkelling.
